Ex nihilio, latin for “out of nothing,” is the belief that God created the world from the chaotic nothingness of the cosmos. We create ex nihilo too, co-creating with Holy chaos and wonder.
On Sunday at 2 pm we'll create paper flowers that will adorn our Dia de los Muertos/All Saints Day memorial alter on November 3. Dia de los Muertos is a indigenous pre-Hispanic Aztec ritual tied to the goddess Mictecacihuatl, or the Lady of the Dead, who allowed spirits to briefly travel back to their families on earth. It is believed that flowers guide the departed spirits from their burial place to their family homes.
We will use coffee filters, markers, and water to create colorful flowers to honor and remember our loved ones. Created by God toto be creative, art and creativity invite us into spiritual reflection in a tangible way. As vibrant colors blend to make multicolor rainbow of flowers, we are allowing our memories and love blend too.
This is all-ages with an intentional centering of kiddo’s spirituality. Together we’ll use art, creativity, and chaos as spiritual practice.
See you on Sunday at the more kid-friendly time of 2 pm at the church.
